Meanwhile, I got an email from Jerry at Koby stating that the "offer" they had first sent was their best offer and not subject to negotiation. I declined, thanked him for his time and told him I was no longer interested. Within an hour I got a reply whining about how we were "only $390 apart" and would I meet him halfway on what he told me was his "final offer" deal.
I made an appointment to see Jerry the next day (from Ocean Springs) and when I got there he was not there and no one had any idea who I was or what I was talking about.
I made it clear to them that I was not interested in playing the "games" in which most dealerships engage and that the only figure that mattered to me would be the difference between the 2014 Outlander and my car. The GSM assured me they did not engage in gamesmanship.

I wanted to get a 2014 Outlander GT located at Bay Mitsubishi in Panama City, FL. Spoke with Jerry Elam at Koby Mitsubishi in Mobile about the car and he called me back within a few hours to tell me that he had contacted Bay Mitsubishi and had made arrangements to acquire the vehicle when we could agree on a deal.
UPDATE: Made the trip to Bay Mitsubishi, was treated in an adult, respectful manner and completed the entire deal EXACTLY as agreed over the phone within one hour. The difference between Koby and Bay is night and day.
Bay IMMEDIATELY made an offer only $500 above the absolute minimum difference I had found, even taking into account the $4500 in rebates and Bay's proposal was $1140 BELOW the deal offered by Koby. Bay made this offer without seeing my trade-in (which is in showroom condition) and then the salesman, Jeff, took a few hours and was able to find me 1.79%/72 months financing when the lowest I had found was 1.89%/72 months from a Federal Credit Union.
I was getting oil changes Walmart since I purchase my 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer. I was advices by Walmart technician that my brand new car had an oil leak. I took it Koby's. Thank God. They told me whoever was doing my oil changed were not putting a gasket on it. In the long run with the gasket, it would cause serious problems. No more Walmart. Imwill be driving now on 180 miles to Koby's. Very polite and courteous service. They also washed my car really good.
Bottom line - leaving for a trip to Panama City tomorrow to pick up the 2014 Outlander GT and NEVER going to have anything to do with Koby for any reason. In my past experience I have found that dealerships which show an apparent lack of ethics in their sales department reflect that same philosophy in their service department.
I cannot recommend Koby Mitsubishi to anyone and I cannot speak well enough about the ethical, straightforward and respectful treatment I have gotten from Jeff at Bay Mitsubishi in Panama City.
Got smart and called Bay Mitsubishi to find out that no one from Koby had spoken to anyone at Bay. Turns out that if they had then Bay would not be able to talk with me because of Mitsubishi policy. Also turns out it was a good thing that the folks at Koby had been lying to me about contacting Bay.
The next day I got the "offer" which was $1640 more than the starting point and not something I was willing to do. I made a counter-offer that was more than what I had wanted to pay and 20 hours later still had no answer.
The Outlander has a $3500 rebate plus $500 Owner Loyalty and $500 Veteran rebate for a total $4500 in rebates. I had done my research about the current market value of a new 2014 Outlander GT and the current going trade-in on my car, which gave me the starting point for serious negotiation. I presented the research from Kelley Blue Book and NADA to the General Sales Manager and he agreed it was a figure we could work with.
